December 2007
Dear Friends,
Warm greetings from all of us at SHARE. We wish you a joyful holiday season and a new year of HOPE for all those who struggle for peace and justice throughout the world.
Thank you for celebrating with us 25 years of accompaniment of the people of El Salvador. Twenty-five years of solidarity with the people of El Salvador is worth celebrating four times and that we did! We gathered with friends and supporters in DC, El Salvador, Milwaukee and San Francisco. The events were vibrant -- a testament to the passion for the work that SHARE does and the individuals that we serve in El Salvador.
Our grand finale of 25th anniversary celebrations took place in San Francisco at the beginning of December. One of the highlights of the event was the visit of Mayor Violeta Menjivar, the first woman mayor of San Salvador. She is an example of the dynamic role of women in the shaping of the future for El Salvador. As you know, women's empowerment is one of SHARE's guiding principles, and we applaud the advances that are being made by women in El Salvador.
We also honored those who are not with us anymore. We recognized Maria Julia Hernandez, unwavering defender of human rights in El Salvador. Our immense gratitude goes to Reverend Gustav Schultz whose deep love and solidarity with the people of El Salvador have guaranteed a new generation of leaders to carry on his passion for justice.
We invite you to commit to another 25 years of solidarity with the people of El Salvador. The challenges are great within the global context. This commitment is a leap of faith. It is hard work that is anchored in just relationships and buoyed by the dreams of visions of all of us who are creating a more peaceful and humane world.
We are orgullosos -- very proud -- of SHARE's accompaniment to communities in El Salvador as they build a new El Salvador. You have made SHARE's work possible.
I want to extend to you a hearty and heartfelt thank you for your monthly contribution to sustain our work.
Un fuerte abrazo y un prospero 2008,
Jose Artiga
